3D PA filament
3D PA filament consists of synthetic fibers made with plastic, air and water. PA belongs to the "polyamides" and we recommend this filament for advanced users of 3D printers. This is because this material is very susceptible to shrinkage and warping during cooling. Therefore, always use a heating bed and a well-insulated space if you are going to print with PA filament.
PA filament is known for its strong and durable properties. With PA filament you can print objects that have to endure heavy loads. This is due to its good mechanical properties. In addition, it is also highly resistant to high temperatures. PA filament is therefore also comparable with ABS filament. The biggest difference is in the flexibility. PA filament is very flexible while ABS filament on the other hand is very rigid.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of 3D PA filament?
Advantages:
PA Filament has great mechanical properties. Therefore, it has a great resistance to impact damage. Making it a great choice for designs that have to endure great force. It also quite flexible. Which can be useful depending on your design. PA filament is also very versatile and can be used in all sorts of projects.
Disadvantages:
PA filament is great but there are some drawbacks. Printing with PA filament will require a heating bed for the best results. Without a heating bed your design will likely warp and deform while cooling down. It is also not recommended to print with PA filament in humid areas. Doing this will have a negative impact on your product. Another thing to keep in mind with 3D PA filament is that it has to be dried before printing. This can be done with an oven or a dehydrator at 50ºC for 6 to 8 hours. It also takes quite a long time to print. Especially when you include the time it takes to dry the material before you print with it.
Applications of PA filament
3D PA filament works incredibly well for 3D printing functional and technical parts, because the thin layers are flexible, and the material has a high mutual layer adhesion. In addition, the material has a high melting point. It is important to store PA filament in an airtight container to ensure that its quality stays the best.
Properties of PA filament
3D PA filament has an exceptional impact resistance and great strength. In addition it also contains a great thermal resistance (average up to 120ºC).
